Description for 2024/25

The Enhanced Practice: Cardiovascular and Respiratory module builds on content introduced in Years 1, 2 and 3 of the MSci Physiotherapy programme and enables the student to enhance their knowledge and skills in assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating cardio-respiratory physiotherapy in the acutely deteriorating patient and in the critical care setting. The module develops the student clinical reasoning and clinical decision making skills.

To enhance the students knowledge and skills in assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating effective care to acutely deteriorating patients.
To extend the students knowledge and skills in assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating cardio-respiratory physiotherapy, including rehabilitation, in the critical care setting.

Intended Learning Outcomes

formulate a reasoned physiotherapy diagnosis in acute respiratory deterioration and/or critical illness: 1
critically evaluate and synthesise current evidence to support clinical decision making and management choices in the application of cardio-respiratory physiotherapy with spontaneously breathing and ventilated patients: 1
rationalise and evaluate assistive technologies used in the management of acute respiratory deterioration and/or critical illness: 1
select, justify and evaluate appropriate outcome measures for acute respiratory problems: 1
create, justify and evaluate a programme of rehabilitation to facilitate function, activity and participation following acute respiratory deterioration and/or critical illness: 1
