The central aim of this module is to explore how gender is constructed in public sphere narratives. It introduces feminist, gender and queer theories that help us to understand the production and reception of representations of femininities, masculinities, and sexualities, and assesses the ways in which gender intersects with other structures of power, including race, ethnicity, class, sexuality and age. Throughout the module we deconstruct how gender and sexuality have been culturally reproduced through the critical analysis of a wide variety of culturally produced texts.
